The Taipei Fine Arts Museum Expansion Project
Taipei ,
Taiwan
The Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) is Taiwan's first museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art and has played a leading role in the development of the country's art scene since its opening in 1983. The TFAM Expansion Project, known as"Museum in the Woods", will create Taiwan's first earth-sheltered (largely underground) museum, providing additional exhibition, collection and interdisciplinary art spaces. PERI has provided the DUO System Formwork and PS 100 Shoring System for this project.
The Project
Faster construction and on-time completion
PERI's DUO System Formwork and PS 100 Shoring System enabled faster assembly and dismantling, helping the contractor improve productivity on site. The efficient and modular design streamlined construction activities, reduced delays, and supported the project's tight schedule, ensuring key milestones were achieved on time.
Safe handling of heavy structural loads
The TFAM expansion required support for massive 1m-thick concrete slabs. PERI's PS 100 Shoring System provided the strength and stability needed to safely handle these heavy loads. This reduced construction risks and gave the contractor a reliable solution for complex underground structural works.
Improved efficiency in confined spaces
Working underground presented significant space constraints. PERI's lightweight DUO Formwork System can be installed without cranes, making it ideal for restricted areas. The easy-to-handle components reduced logistical challenges and allowed construction teams to work more efficiently in the limited underground workspace.
Superior concrete finish quality
The museum's architectural design demanded high-quality concrete surfaces. PERI's DUO System Formwork delivered smooth, consistent finishes that met the project's aesthetic requirements. With less remedial work and surface preparation required, the contractor was able to save both time and labour costs.
Reduced project noise
PERI helped to minimise noise during the project. The DUO System Formwork requires no cutting or nailing, resulting in cleaner and quieter operations. As a result, visitors were able to enjoy the exhibition tour without the noise disturbance.
